Course Descriptions

Word of Life Bible Training Center is a training institution imparting expertise and developing skilled laborers for the work and Word of God.

First Year Courses

B.S. 101 - Interpreting the Scriptures
This course provides an in-depth study in Hermeneutics, the science of interpreting scriptures.  Students will be mentored in the use of the laws, rules, skills, methods, and principles that govern Bible interpretation.

B.S. 102 – Bible Research
Students will be equipped to accurately research and study the Bible using various theological methods and strategies.  You will be trained to effectively use concordances, dictionaries, lexicons, commentaries, and other study helps.  You will learn research, prayer, and meditation techniques that will unlock the revelation in scripture to you.  This is a hands-on in which you will actually learn by doing.

B.S. 103 – Bible Survey
It is accurately stated that the New Testament is in the old concealed and the Old Testament is in the New revealed.  In this course you will explore every book of the Bible in summary form, including the rich New Testament truths buried in the types and symbols of the Old Testament.  Characters and events that reveal the true nature of God will be emphasized as students also gain a deep appreciation for the truths of the Old Testament.

B.S. 104 – Bible Doctrine
An in-depth study into the major doctrines of Christianity will be discussed.  Students will be exposed to Christian doctrine via its origin, thought, scriptural reference, etc. which will attest to the soundness, infallibility, and inspiration of these authoritative teachings. This course affords the opportunity to do an in-depth probing into what the Bible teaches about controversial doctrinal issues.  Students will do research to support or disqualify what people believe based on what the Bible teaches; and as a class project, develop, defend, and present an accurate Bible doctrine.

B.S. 105 – Spiritual Formation
The design and intent of this course is to encourage and equip the believer to yield more fully to the work of God in conforming him/her to the image of Jesus Christ. Various spiritual disciplines will be introduced and practiced as a means of positioning believers to receive the grace to be transformed. Such disciplines include, but are not limited to; prayer, study of the Word of God, meditation, fasting, silence, worship, and journaling. Additionally, the Glory Grid (created by Pastor Timothy R. Stokes I) will be used as a means of embracing our standing as new creations based on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

Second Year Courses

B.S. 201 – Sensitivity of the Holy Spirit
This course is designed to help students understand the necessity of being Spirit-led in life and in carrying out their God-given assignment in the earth.  We will explore the difference between being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and being aware of the sensitivity of the Holy Spirit so that believers develop a consistent walk in holiness.

B.S. 202 – Evangelism
Learn how to win souls for Christ.  This course will teach methods, strategies, and techniques enabling you to bring in the harvest, yes, even friends and loved ones.  Students will learn to demonstrate and actively participate in evangelism. “...do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of your ministry.”

B.S. 203 – Christian Counseling
This course provides theoretical and practical learning experiences to acquaint the student with “Christ-centered” counseling methods.  The focus is upon using Biblical principles and reliance upon Holy Spirit to help the counselee.  Students will be taught skills in relationship building, confrontation, and the proper use of self in the counseling relationship.  Participants will learn to identify and begin resolution of their own issues in order to bring the greatest degree of wholeness to the counseling experience.  The importance of the counselor's emotional and spiritual health and maturity will be a major area of emphasis in this life changing experience.

B.S. 204 – Exegesis of the Scriptures
What did God really say through those He inspired to write the Bible?  Students will receive intense training and step by step guided research methods enabling them to accurately determine what was said in the scriptures.  Students will be exposed to some of the most advanced biblical resources available today.  You must first learn what was said in order to know what was meant.

B.S. 205 – Preach the Word I
Are you really “called” to preach?  Are you sure?  After this class, you will know.  The content of this course is designed to pierce the heart of the preacher.  Students will gain exposure to the Art of Preaching and receive intense mentoring in sermon preparation and guidelines for delivery.

B.S. 206 – Preach the Word II
This course is a continuation of “Preach the Word.” During this class, students will explore the depths of the call to preach, exhaustively examine the Art of Preaching and receive invaluable knowledge and practice in sermon preparation and delivery. You will also learn how to identify, release and strengthen your gift and others.

Ministry Tracks


5-Fold Ministry Gift Track (1st Year)

B.S. 204 – Exegesis of the Scriptures
What did God really say through those He inspired to write the Bible? Students will receive intense training and step by step guided research methods enabling them to accurately determine what was said in the scriptures. Students will be exposed to some of the most advanced biblical resources available today. You must first learn what was said in order to know what was meant.

B.S. 205 – Preach the Word I
Are you really “called” to preach? Are you sure? After this class, you will know. The content of this course is designed to pierce the heart of the preacher. Students will gain exposure to the Art of Preaching and receive intense mentoring in sermon preparation and guidelines for delivery.

B.S. 206 – Preach the Word II

Deacon/Deaconess Track (1st Year)

The Ministry of the Deacon (20-Week Training)
This training is aimed at guiding you through an intentional training process which will culminate in a clear decision toward your candidacy as a deacon/ministry. The Church’s love and commitment toward you is not dependent on you being ordained, but rather on our appreciation of God bringing you into our lives.


Leadership Track (1st Year)

L.T. 244 Foundations of Leadership Development
This collaborative learning environment is designed for emerging leaders, and will focus on defining leadership, identifying personal strengths, and assessing individual leadership capacity. This course will equip individuals with the tools to begin their leadership journey toward the end goal of building, implementing and sustaining the mission and vision of the church.

L.T. 245 Intermediate Leadership Development & Strategies
This course builds on personal leadership development from the Foundations of Leadership Development course, and expands to strategies for effective team leadership, positive social impact, mentorship principles, and understanding the value of effective leadership as an integral part of maintaining excellence in ministry.

L.T. 246 Advanced Leadership Development & Strategies
As the third part of the Leadership Development Series, this course focuses on strategies to further develop personal strengths while helping others, through team building, mentorship and succession planning, uncover their own personal potential for purposeful and intentional placement in ministerial service. Participants will learn strategies to identify and execute unrealized aspects of the mission and vision where they serve as leaders, both in the church and to make positive impact in all areas of life.


Church Administration Track (2nd Year)

Principles of Management
Managing church staff is similar to managing staff at any organization.  Learn the basic principles of managing your church staff and volunteers using lessons from organizational behavior and human resource management.  The course is designed to help maximize success in your ministry by effectively managing the people called to work alongside you.

Church Administration            
Church administration examines the structure of ministry and the interconnectedness of its working parts in the office and the sanctuary.  Learn the business side of ministry as we explore its various areas and how each part works behind the scenes to make the organization work better as a whole.  This course will explore the structure of ministry departments, selection of staff positions, proper financial structure and stewardship, and the legalities of ministries as not-for-profit organizations.  

B.S. Internship Project (216, 226, 236)
The Internship class will challenge you to grow in your gift by tackling a real need in the area of your calling.  You will be required to create and implement the solution to a community or church need in the area of your program track.


Children's & Youth Ministry Track (2nd Year)

Working with Children and Youth
One of the biggest challenges to working with young people is understanding their behavior.  This course will examine what motivates and discourages youth, including how and why they learn, act out and respond to correction.  You will discover how to work with youth so that you can teach and lead them more effectively.

Teaching Seminar
This seminar will unpack a toolbox of teaching techniques that will enable those called to youth ministries to reach their students more effectively with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Prepare for a creative, hands-on, interactive classroom environment that will reacquaint you with your inner child and encourage you to bring that same liveliness to your youth ministry.

B.S. Internship Project (216, 226, 236)
The Internship class will challenge you to grow in your gift by tackling a real need in the area of your calling.  You will be required to create and implement the solution to a community or church need in the area of your program track.

Worship Leader Track (2nd Year)

Worship & the Worshipper
An in-depth study of true biblical worship from its origin to its present function, including its times of activation will be presented.  Students will receive intense training and mentoring equipping them to skillfully instruct, enter, and lead others into the presence of God.  Learn how to continually be in the presence of God through worship.

Leading in Praise & Worship
The practice of praise and worship will change your life! This course will help you draw unhindered into new depths of the worship experience. You’ll experience spiritual refreshing and learn to glorify God in all that you do.  This course is both dynamic and uplifting. Discover how to release the full experience of worship in your life and simultaneously lead others into the presence of the living God. This class is for serious worshipers only!
